Mrs Thornton is keen to develop strong links between the school, parents, carers and other partners in the local area to ensure that pupils’ life chances are transformed through excellent teaching and learning. A number of drop-in meetings have been scheduled where Mrs Thornton is hoping to meet many local residents, schools and businesses, getting to know the community and find out about hopes and aspirations for Newlands Primary, as a community asset and for their children’s education.

Dear Community member

I write as I am delighted and proud to introduce myself as the newly appointed headteacher of Newlands Primary Academy, opening September 2025.

The school building itself is taking shape and we are looking ahead to make sure it presents an exciting, vibrant and stimulating learning environment for all the children who will be joining us. How fortunate the school is to have such an amazing space for children to learn and play out of doors, as well as the most up to date and carefully planned internal organisation with priorities for learning in the 21st Century embedded through its technology, environment and its commitment to sustainability.

With a determination to become a great school built on firm foundations, I believe the views of the local community should be at the heart of the decision making as we shape the vision and ethos of Newlands Primary.

I hope that many of you will share with me the excitement of being involved in our academy I look forward to welcoming many of you as potential parents/carers, or as local residents who want to know more about Newlands Primary Academy and the community that we will be part of.
